Over the years, Acme Tuckpointing & Restoration has worked on a diverse range of building projects in Minnesota and Wisconsin, including a number of landmarks and historic buildings. Most of the work that we do involves standard maintenance on masonry structures.
People Serving People
This 1916, 10-story brick warehouse at 614 Third St. South, Minneapolis, was converted into an emergency shelter and transitional housing for homeless families, including administrative, service, and school offices, a medical clinic, and daycare center. As part of the 2001 renovation undertaken by the Twin Cities organization People Serving People, Acme Tuckpointing completely cleaned and tuckpointed the striking Portland Avenue elevation.
Griggs-Midway Building
In 1912, Griggs, Cooper & Company, later famous for its Home Brand products, completed a large modern factory on the corner of Fairview and University Avenues in St. Paul for the manufacture of crackers and candy. During the past ten years, Acme Tuckpointing & Restoration has done various masonry repairs on the renovated Griggs-Midway Building, now home to scores of diverse businesses. In 2004, under the direction of Atlantic Engineering Systems of Pittsburgh, PA, we completed a substantial restoration of major portions of the building not previously addressed. This included the reconstruction of numerous, seriously deteriorated concrete spandrels, tuckpointing, rebuilding of significant areas of damaged brick, window caulking, exterior cleaning and application of waterproof coatings.
Village of St. Anthony Falls
Fire Barn & Annex
In 2001, Stahl Construction began renovation of the 30,000-square foot historic 1902 Fire Barn and its Annex into commercial office space for Hunt Gregory as part of their Village at St. Anthony Falls project. Acme Tuckpointing did extensive masonry repair, tuckpointing, caulking and chemical cleaning of both buildings. This mixed-use complex located between First Avenue, University Avenue and Hennepin Avenue across the Mississippi River from downtown Minneapolis won both the CityBusiness 2001 Best In Real Estate and 2002 MCA Project Achievement Awards.
Pierre Bottineau Library
Two historic buildings, the 1893 Wagon Shed and the 1913 Millwright Shop of the former Grain Belt Brewery, were restored and combined with a new addition to create the 12,000 sq. ft. Pierre Bottineau Library in Northeast Minneapolis. Acme Tuckpointing & Restoration did the tuckpointing, brick replacement and cleaning of the older buildings that were incorporated into this beautiful multi-use library designed by RSP Architects, Ltd. The project has been honored with a 2003 Preservation Award from the Preservation Alliance of Minnesota and an Adaptive Reuse Award from the Minneapolis Heritage Preservation Commission.
Redeemer Missionary Baptist Church
Located at 116 East 32nd St. in Minneapolis, this 1910 Prairie-style church designed by William Gray Purcell and George Feick, Jr. became the permanent home of the Redeemer Missionary Baptist Church in 1988. The Redeemer congregation undertook extensive preservation and restoration of the church, and in 2000, they hired Acme Tuckpointing to tuckpoint and clean the exterior. Redeemer Missionary Baptist Church was later bestowed with a 2001 National Preservation Honor Award by the National Trust for Historic Preservation for its excellence in “preservation, rehabilitation, restoration and interpretation of our architectural and cultural heritage.” Acme Tuckpointing is proud to have contributed to the restoration of the church to its 1910 brilliance.
